Dear Fellow Rotarians,
We had another great speaker join us this past Thursday in Nir Kabaretti from the Santa Barbara Symphony. He’s been the conductor in Santa Barbara for 20 years now, and provided us a wonderful education on the history of conducting and how they perform their role. Santa Barbara is fortunate to have such a professional symphony that draws musicians from all over the world. As for the rest of the meeting, we had Walt Stephens from the Goleta Noontime club come share about the annual Rotary Rose Parade float. As always, they’re eager for volunteers and financial support. You can go to their website at https://www.rotaryfloat.org/ for more details on how to get involved. In addition, I want to congratulate Don Jack on a successful hip surgery. He’s still hobbling around a little, but will be in full swing in short time and ready for our club’s annual trip to Guatemala to serve our partner organization, Natun, and the indigenous populations in that region.
Please note we have a full calendar in October. Our next lunch meeting will be on October 1st where we’ll hear from our friends at Natun Guatemala. We’ll then be hosting a special Mayoral Debate on October 15th at The Santa Barbara Club. I want to particularly thank Jim Armstrong for coordinating this event and acting as the MC. We welcome guests to join us and hear from our candidates in the lead up to the election in November. Lastly, we have our Rotary Family BBQ on Thursday, October 29th, from 4-6pm at Tucker’s Grove. Please note the board of directors has approved ALL MEMBERS will be charged for this event whether you show up or not so we encourage you to bring family members (spouses, kids, grandkids, etc.) and join us for the festivities. I want to thank Steve Milam for taking the lead on this gathering in conjunction with a number of our newer members.
