Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Viva La Fiesta!! Old Spanish Days is now upon us, and I’d like encourage all who are in town to register and join the special Fiesta Happy Hour at the University Club from 5-7pm on Thursday evening in lieu of our normal lunch meeting. The cost will be the standard $40, which will include an all you can eat taco bar. Drinks will need to be purchased, but reasonably priced.
As for our meeting this past Thursday, respected local journalist, Josh Molina, shared his personal story of coming full circle with the Santa Barbara Newspress that has been raised from the dead and is now operating again. He’s the new Editor and is clearly very excited about what the future holds for the publication as well as what it means for our community. In addition, Wendy Simons and Jennifer Lemert inspired our membership to donate money towards backpacks for Noah’s Anchorage, and we raised $1200 towards the project surpassing our goal of $1000. Well done! Michael Daly also gave a brief presentation on his membership plans and encouraged all of us to think like we’re on the membership committee and be reflecting on who within our circles we can encourage to be part of this wonderful organization that serves the community and the world.

And, on that note, we inducted our first new member of this Rotary year and welcomed Don MacLeod into the fold. Please make a point of introducing yourself to Don whenever you have an opportunity if you haven’t already done so. Our next lunch meeting will be on Thursday, August 20th, where we’ll have our new District Governor, Margarida Eidson, sharing her plans and hopes for Rotary in the region.
Viva La,
Dan
