The Santa Barbara Rotary Club is fortunate to have John McKinney returning to speak to our club on “California’s State Parks: The Best of California Preserved Forever”

Other states have high mountains, vast deserts, and scenic shorelines, but only California has all these features and preserves examples of them in its park system. California has 280 State Parks! Who knew? The short answer is hardly anyone. John McKinney, the only one crazy enough to have hiked and written about all 280 parks and longtime advocate for them, will take us on an informative and entertaining virtual tour of the parks. You won’t want to miss his celebration of the natural, historical, and cultural treasures on display in our California State Parks.

Bio: John McKinney is an award-winning writer, public speaker, and author of 30-hiking themed books: inspiring narratives, top selling guides, books for children. For 18 years John, aka The Trailmaster, wrote a weekly hiking column for the Los Angles Times, and has hiked and enthusiastically told the story of more than ten thousand miles of trail across California and around the world. His “Every Trail Tells a Story” series of guides highlight the very best hikes in California. “Hike Santa Barbara: A Day Hiker’s Guide” is his local bestseller.
