Fellow Rotarians,

It was over a year ago, under the leadership of President Stacey Lydon, that our club adopted a new model for member engagement. Instead meeting every Friday, we moved to the first and third Friday every month with service and fun events woven between. After navigating a year of Covid disruptions, the model is taking hold. We enjoyed two social events last week—pub trivia at Institution Ale and happy hour at Shoreline Café—with our next service event set for Sept. 18 at 9a (Coastal Clean-up Day at Hendry’s Beach).

Our meeting returns this Friday (9/3) with special guest Dr. Inés Casillas, Professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies and Director of the Chicano Studies Institute (CSI) at UCSB. Dr. Casillas’ research focuses on immigrant engagement with U.S. Spanish-language and bilingual media, the representation of accented Spanish and English languages within popular culture, as well as the integration of Ethnic Studies within K-12 schools.

As added entertainment, Game Time returns this Friday. Come by 12:30p and play two rounds of Pub Trivia with special prizes to the top team!

Join us on Friday:

In person: Come see your fellow Rotarians and meet Dr. Casillas at Brass Bear Brewing & Bistro (outside venue) in the Funk Zone (28 Anacapa St, Unit E) this Friday, Sept. 3, from noon to 1:30p. Cost is $30, includes lunch.

Remote on Zoom: Program starts at 12:30p and will be recorded.

Until then thank you for all that you do for our club and the community.

In service,

Matt
