What a great program we had at our meeting last Friday!  The Channel Islands YMCA Chief operating officer, Jennifer Heinen-Stiffler, talked about their organization’s crises and homeless services.   As someone that has worked in the field of youth development my whole adult life I think I can say, with some credibility, the services being provided by our YMCA are invaluable to some of the most vulnerable teens in our community.  I am talking specifically about homeless teens. I know none of us wants to believe that we could have a homeless teen issue in Santa Barbara but we do.  Through her awesome presentation we all realized we certainly do have a large homeless teen issue in Santa Barbara.  Our very own member Margo Byrne and her team at the Channel Island YMCA are taking this issue on. Just a phenomenal presentation last week.
Our numbers were not bad for a 5th Friday meeting.  We had 20 members come to the lunch.  One challenge we are having with our new venue is the catering.  I apologize for this issue.  I assure you we are working on this very hard behind the scenes.  Stay tuned.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at our meeting this Friday when one of my favorite people, Dan Aldrich III will be our weekly program. Dan will be talking about the History of the UC System.  Dan Aldrich IV and I will be in the corner crying over the horrible season our beloved Red Sox had.
Hope to see you at our next meeting.  Dan I will bring the tissues.
All my best,
Michael Baker
