My Fellow Rotarians,

“I think you’ll find it’s the exact same measurements as our gym back in Hickory.”

The quote comes from “Hoosiers”—the classic underdog tale (based on a true story) of a tiny rural school that won the 1952 Indiana state basketball championship. In the scene Coach Norman Dale (played by the always dependable Gene Hackman) asks his team to measure the dimensions where they will play the final game. While they stand in an arena multiple times the size of their tiny gym back in Hickory, Coach Dale’s point is that the field of play is the same.

It’s a lesson for all of us, especially was we continue our quest to find the next home field for RCSB gatherings. Our tour continues this Friday, July 16, at Eleven14 Crafthouse & Brewery. There we will welcome special guest Kathy Odell, CEO of Women’s Economic Ventures. Click here to RSVP.

And bring guests. Our transition policy of charging only for meetings attended continues through September.
We’re also continuing to experiment with hybrid meetings (in person and remote). Click here on Friday at 12:30p to watch on Zoom.

Onward, our dance card is filling up with exciting new Rotary programs and experiences—including a July 23 Happy Hour at Longboard’s Grill, a talk by Judge Brian Hill, a mayoral debate, and site visits to Fiesta and the renovated Cabrillo Pavilion at East Beach. Visit our website for the latest.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday. As Coach Dale reminds us, the spirit of Rotary carries on regardless of where we meet or how members engage in our mission.

In service,

Matt Nehmer
