Fellow Rotarians,

The Rotary wheel continues to spin this week as we welcome special guest Dr. Inés Casillas, Professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies and Director of the Chicano Studies Institute (CSI) at UCSB, to our round on Jan. 21. If you recall, Dr. Casillas was originally supposed to speak at our club last September and had to reschedule.

Dr. Casillas’ research focuses on immigrant engagement with U.S. Spanish-language and bilingual media, the representation of accented Spanish and English languages within popular culture, as well as the integration of Ethnic Studies within K-12 schools.

Nearly half the club turned out at our last meeting. Let’s see if we can match that number this week.

As announced last week, our plan is to hold the next two meetings (Jan. 21 and Feb. 4) via Zoom with a goal to be back in person on Feb. 18.

Until then, thank you for all that you do for the community.

In service,

Matt
