Thanks to everyone who was able to attend our club meeting last Friday at the Costa Restaurant at the Mar Monte Hotel. I know many of our members were frustrated with parking situation, and I appreciate all the efforts everyone made to get to the meeting. I have already heard from at least one member who became so frustrated, they just gave up and didn’t attend. I have also heard from other members concerning their feelings about the venue, food, etc.
Today I went down to the area at noon, and there was plenty of parking on the street and in the Waterfront parking lot across Cabrillo Blvd. I have already expressed our frustrations to the hotel, and we will monitor the situation until we meet again there in mid-August. Hopefully, this was just a one-off experience, but if it isn’t we’ll have to go back to the drawing board. If anyone else has feedback about the location, please feel free to send to me.
At the meeting, it was my pleasure to welcome four new members, Glen Adams, Rene Eyerly, Anne Teller, and Marc Green. We are excited to have these new members join our club.
As the first meeting of the new year, I went over my background, discussed the Rotary movement at the international scale and district scale, and the state of our club. Our club currently has 59 members, is in strong financial condition, and continues to provide important services to our community and on an international scale.
I also discussed my priorities for this year, which are summarized below:
1.Make sure all members know how to access Club Runner and our Club Website.
2.Increase involvement of members on committees and attendance at lunches
3.Continue tradition of monthly community service projects
4.Increase the number of social events and opportunities for fellowship
5.Maintain and grow membership
6.Mare sure lunches are fun, informative, and valuable to members
Please remember, that next week, in lieu of a regular meeting, we will be having a social event from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Mulligans, located at the Santa Barbara Municipal Golf Course. This is a good opportunity to bring your spouses or partners, or even potential members, to a fun event. And after several days of fiesta craziness, a nice way to relax and enjoy ourselves. Please RSVP early so we can have a good count of who will be attending.
Enjoy your week.
