Guatemala!

Since 2014 the major international service project of our Club has been our work in Guatemala. Club members have made annual trips to work with Mayan Families, our partner organization, to perform service projects in support of the indigenous Mayan population in the Lake Atitlan area of western Guatemala. Our most recent trip took place in February/ March of 2020 just prior to the widespread impact of COVID. We anticipate returning to our work in Guatemala once COVID subsides.

Please join us for our virtual meeting on Friday, February 4 when we will get a refresher from Bill Dutton and Don Jack on the work that we have done in Guatemala. Bill and Don will be joined by Jackie Yoc, from Mayan Families, who will update us on the current situation in Guatemala and the ongoing work of Mayan Families as a catalyst for the improvement of the lives of the indigenous Mayan people that they serve. Jackie is the Executive Assistant to Erin Mooney, the Executive Director of Mayan Families. She  is one of the many indigenous Mayan people who staff the organization. Jackie was our key point of contact for the Tutoring Program which we supported starting in 2019 with partial funding coming from a District Grant.

We are looking forward to our conversation with Jackie.
