Serving Vulnerable Youth on the South Coast.
Santa Barbara Rotary is pleased to welcome Jennifer Heinen Stiffler, COO for the Channel Islands YMCA. Jennifer will provide an over view of the YMCAs Youth and Family Service Branch.  She will update the club on services that support youth and young adults who are most vulnerable in our community.  Jen will share an over view of the case management offered to clients which is focused on housing stability, independent living skills, and personal wellbeing, as well as, other direct services to support youth and young adults in crisis and those who are housing insecure.

The History of the University of California

We are pleased to have our own Dan Aldrich's father, Dan Aldrich III, speak to the Club about the history of the UC system.  The Aldrich family has a long history with the UC system, with Dan Aldrich II having served as the founding Chancellor of UC Irvine, and Dan III following in his footsteps having a career with the UC system.

He is presently semi-retired from the University of California although he serves in the Office of the President part-time as Senior Development Associate for the UC System. He has served the System professionally for over 30 years and held Senior Administrative positions, at the Santa Cruz, Riverside and Irvine campuses, as well as the Office of the President. He received his B.S. Degree from UC Davis and Masters Cognate in Public Administration and Ph.D. in Educational Administration from UCLA. 

He has overseen the development of fundraising efforts and helped secure in excess of a half a billion dollars in private support for the University System. He is an active volunteer in his community serving as Past President of the Chamber of Commerce and United Way. He is also active in the local Rotary Club having helped create and manage a high school Scholarship Program that has raised an endowment of over $1 million and has awarded over $700,000 in student scholarships.

Recent World Record Row by Female Rowing Team from California to Hawaii

Local Santa Barbara area resident Adrienne Smith was part of a four woman team that recently broke the world record rowing from San Francisco to Hawaii in 34 days.  This is a fantastic opportunity to learn first hand from an incredible athlete about the challenges of rowing across the Pacific on such a difficult endeavor.

Hiking in the Los Padres National Forest and on the Channel Islands

Our own Don Jack, will be giving a presentation on hiking opportunities in the local Los Padres National Forest and in the Channel Islands National Park. Don has extensive exerieince as a hiker and volunteer through out our local area.  He will go over easy hikes to more strenous overnight options for seeing our beautiful surroundings.  Don has serves as a volunteer for the National Park Service and has been fortunate to see areas of the Channel Islands not available to the general public.

The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara is excited to have Justice Robert Benham speak to our club in recognition of Martin Luther King Day.  Justice Benham served on the Supreme Court of Georgia for over 30 years, retiring in March 2020. He was the second African-American graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, the first African-American to serve on the Supreme Court of Georgia, and the first African-American to serve as the court's chief justice.
