Rotarian On The Road – Makeups in Melbourne

Fellow Rotarians,

This past week I explored Melbourne, drove the Great Ocean Road, spotted a koala in the wild, stood in a grove of California Redwoods, and made-up at two Rotary Club meetings. It was a busy week, and a lot of fun! One of the best parts of traveling as a Rotarian is attending meetings in new places and meeting people from around the world.

My first makeup was with the Rotary Club of Central Melbourne Sunrise. It wasn’t easy to wake up so early, but the meeting was energetic, informative, and I met some incredible Rotarians. The speaker of the day discussed a mentoring program through the Victoria Police that the Club is involved with. For lunch I walked north to the Rotary Club of Carlton, a smaller Club, and met many great Rotarians and enjoyed an “about me” speech from one of the Club members. That same evening, with my Rotary inertia growing, I walked across the Yarra River for an evening Club meeting. Unfortunately when I arrived at the designated place I was the only person there, so I went 2 for 3 for the day, not bad! In each Club meeting the main discussion was Santa Barbara and how our community is recovering. Rotary truly is an international family!

Tomorrow I’ll be flying to New Zealand with my friends and picking up a campervan to ramble around the South Island for the month of February. I’ve never been to New Zealand and after spending 6 weeks going from city to city in Australia I’m looking forward to some time in the backcountry!
