President’s Letter – September 28, 2017

Fellow Rotarians,

Our September 22 meeting was fun, at least for me. We had a slightly ranchy (no, not raunchy) feel to things as I used a lot of photos from my trip to Kansas. Not ev Guestseryday you stand at the feet of your great-great grandparents resting site. Visitors included Kirk Greene, 49%er, returned from Seahawks land. We also had Dan Fontaine, with the Wilderness Youth Project, guest of the speaker Todd McGinley. Guests for the last time included Jeff Walters and Mark Gisler, incoming members with our new Corporate Membership category, with the Salvation Army. Our fill-in Sargeant-at-Arms was Stacy Lyden, invocation was led by and we all pledged together.

Announcements included reminders for the upcoming Annual Picnic, Friday 29. See details in this Hub. Be ready to sign-up for Salvtion Army Bell Ringing! We have up to five opportunities this year to beat our competition for putting money in the kettle. Fines were a little light, mostly focused on Jim Carberry for making the cover of the Montecito Journal for his role in the upcoming fundraiser for the Santa Barbara Law Enforcement League.

We inducted our second Corporate Member at this meeting. The Salvation Army, Santa Barbara Corps and Hospitality House will join us with Designees Jeff Walter and Mark Gisler eligible to attend meetings. Our support for the Salavation Army over the years has included Holiday Season Bell Ringing and other various projects.

Well, the meeting last week was one of the most important of the year; we got an update on the doings of our Charitable Foundation Board from Todd McGinley. The fact that we have such a Board is significant, not all clubs do have this fundraising body in place. Read the Directory for some more information. The Foundation does a lot of diligence throughout the year to see that this fund is managed and disbursed for the greatest benefit possible.

Being a filial son, I am off to visit my parents for a portion of October. Be sure to mark October 20 on your calendars.
