President’s Letter – October 22, 2019

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the Rotary Club of Studio City-Sherman Oaks. That is a club with an interesting history. It was two separate clubs that were shrinking, so they merged. And continued shrinking. The merger was a good stop-gap, but it didn’t solve their underlying problem. I hope they find the formula to attract new members.

Growing a club is not magic. It is a matter of consistently having good programs (interesting topics and speakers who are good communicators), fun meetings, doing meaningful service projects, and communicating what you are doing to the community.

Speaking of magic, this week’s program is going to be a lot of fun and will be a good one for inviting guests (aka prospective members or people who know prospective members)! Our speaker-presenter, Gene Urban, is a world class magician, known for his close up work. He performs at the Magic Castle in LA, and uses magic to teach and entertain in business. Gene will share his insights about business, psychology, and human nature. Be sure to register so that we can be sure to order enough food, and arrive early to get a seat close to the front!

Warmest regards,

  1. Good Morning Dean,

Angel Tree is a program managed and under the umbrella of Prison Fellowship Ministries. Each year we provide children, of incarcerated parents, with toys for Christmas. We would like to know if you are aware of any churches in Santa Barbara that would be interested in participating in the Angel Tree program? As a former Rotarian I know that there are many Rotarians that would be interested in helping us identify churches or community centers that would like to participate in Angel Tree.

    I can be reached at (805) 432-8209
