President’s Letter – March 3, 2020

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

I admit it–I’m kind of a nerd when it comes to annual reports. I love them when they are thoughtfully written with the intent to actually inform stakeholders, and not just comply with regulatory requirements. Today I read The Rotary Foundation’s (TRF) annual report for fiscal year 2018-2019. It is thoughtfully designed and written. It is an inspiring document, highlighting what Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact clubs around the world are doing with money received from TRF. if you have contributed to TRF and haven’t read the annual report, I encourage you to do so. It feels good to know how your money is being spent (spoiler alert: I think TRF spends your money well).

Annual Report:

It got me thinking about what the annual report of the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara would look like. Would it inspire us to do give more and do more? Would it give us something to hang our collective hat on when recruiting new members? Who are the stakeholders who would care? If this idea sounds interesting to you, either as a thought experiment or an actual club project, I’d love to hear from you. Working on it is another way you could get involved to support your club.

We have another excellent program scheduled for Friday, keeping with the theme of diplomacy. I look forward to seeing you there. And, by the way, what do you think of the new feature in the HUB and on the club calendar? Did you notice it…?

Best regards,
