President’s Letter – January 24, 2018

I’m glad I had a lot to say last week because I am a little short this week, but let’s rejoice; the 101 is open! Although I must admit that having had to spend time in Carpinteria and Ventura, both are charming places with all kinds of hidden good things.  I had to drive to Oxnard to find my favorite cigarillos.
Having missed our visit to Direct Relief, I’ll call on someone else at this Friday’s meeting to give a 60 second recap of what those that were able to attend got to see and hear.  This week, we have Teacher Recognition and a few other bits of club business to handle, before our program.
This from Steve Baker, the chap who has been leading the charge on our Programs Committee: “Economic Recovery After The Disaster.”
About our presenter: Marsha Bailey is the President, CEO, and Founder of Women’s Economic Ventures (WEV). She has 30 years of experience in women’s business development and micro-lending. Under her leadership, WEV has become nationally recognized for its high-impact, innovative programs which have helped start or expand more than 4,000 businesses on the Central Coast. In 2017, Bailey was inducted into the South Coast Business Times’ Business Hall of Fame.
This sounds like an intelligent, relevant presentation.  Perhaps, take a moment to go through your mental Rolodex (what the heck is that?) and see if there isn’t someone you know that would be interested in the program and invite them to attend.  Send me or anyone in the club that person’s name so we may personally welcome them.  They may like what they find.
Rotarily,
Michael Gardner
President, 2017-18
