President’s Letter – August 8, 2017

Dear Esteemed Rotarians,

I will be acting president for the next few weeks as president Michael Gardner will be on a medical leave of absence. Please keep Michael in your thoughts.

We had a fantastic Fiesta celebration last Friday, hosted by Pacific Premier Bank. Thank you, Mike Bieza, for your kind hospitality and the opportunity to view the Fiesta parade from such a premier location.

This week our speaker will be Chief Warner McGrew. It will be an interesting presentation as we consider our lives in Santa Barbara County with the constant threat of fire. Chief Warner R. McGrew is the retired Santa Barbara City Fire Chief. He worked for the Santa Barbara City Fire Department for 35 years, served as Fire Marshal for 15 years and was Fire Chief for the last 7 years of his career. He currently holds the position of Liaison Officer on the Central Coast Incident Management Team, and has done so for the past 12 years. He has been on the Command Staff for over 30 major wild land fires. The most recent, the Soberanes Fire in Monterey Country, burned 150,000 acres and cost over $250,000,000.00 to control. It destroyed over 60 residences and one life was lost.

I am looking forward to seeing you all this Friday noon at the Double Tree. Please consider bringing a guest or prospective member.

Warm regards,
James N. Stretchberry
Immediate Past President
