President’s Letter – August 29, 2017

Fellow Rotarians,

It’s good to be back at the helm. Thanks to James Stretchberry and all Board members, actually everyone in the club, for keeping things up during my absence.

Thanks to Don Jack for both the thought-provoking Invocation and the song, Home on the Range. Good thing everyone knows that song as I didn’t have the lyrics on the screen. We had Bernadette Bagley of Montecito RC. Our guests included Mark Gisler of the Salvation Army, guest of Bob Fatch. Mark’s membership is working its way through the works! Also, Jill Zachary, our speaker. More on that later.

There were announcements. Robert Dibley gave an impassioned tutorial on the importance of our upcoming 100 year anniversary and the Gala being planned to celebrate. More, constantly, about this event.
Fines included Jim Carberry for recent travels. Sailing travels also resulted in fines. The upcoming Annual Family Picnic is coming up on September 27 with details available on our website and at the next few meetings. I used the president’s time for an update for my last few weeks. If you missed it, you missed it.

Our speaker, Jill Zachary, spoke eruditely about the ongoing improvement at the East Beach Pavilion. Actually, she had the entire program between her ears. Jill spoke with detailed knowledge about the history, facilities, funding and future of a hugely important element of the Santa Barbara lifestyle. The entire program and collateral materials made me want to get out on the trails and streets on my bicycle and skateboard- I do that close to the hospital so the transport bill won’t be too big. Santa Barbara has so much to offer and we are lucky have stewards like Jill proving oversight for our Parks and Recreations programs.
