President’s Letter – August 16, 2017

Dear Esteemed Rotarians,

Thanks to Chief Warner McGrew for an excellent presentation on fires in California. He gave a wonderful example with the Detwiler fire (Lake Tahoe), which burned 48,000 acres and destroyed 29 structures. We can never be informed enough about the horror of fires in California and our need to always be proactive.

President Michael continues to make improvements with his health and looks forward to returning as president in mid- September. Please keep Michael in your thoughts.

This week we have another excellent speaker as we continue to make our members aware of the challenges we might experience living on the West coast. Glenn Pomeroy is CEO of the California Earthquake Authority. Glenn has been traveling around the state to meet with community leaders and stakeholders to discuss the organization’s exciting new programs and initiatives launched this year regarding earthquake preparedness. The presentation offers insight regarding California’s high risk for an earthquake, and makes recommendations to communities on how best to prepare for and recover from this kind of natural disaster.

Looking forward to seeing you all this Friday.

Warm regards,
James N. Stretchberry
Immediate Past President
