President’s Letter – August 1, 2019

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

When I moved to Santa Barbara in December of 2013 I quickly learned how much this town loves a parade. By the time summer of 2014 rolled around and I learned about Old Spanish Days (aka Fiesta) I knew these were my kind of people. I get it if you’ve had your fill of horses and cascarones over the years, but I still love it. In fact, the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara’s annual Fiesta party that year was my first introduction to the club (thank you Connie Green!). With that kind of introduction how could I not want to be a part of this club?

Whether you have had your fill or can’t get enough of Fiesta and the horse parade, I hope you will at least drop by Pacific Premiere Bank and break tortillas with your fellow Rotarians on Friday. It is about community, right? It won’t be the same without you!

So this week I will leave you with these final words, my tribute to Santa Barbara’s beloved tradition.

An Ode to Fiesta

Get ready my dear
It’s that time of year
For horses, and tacos with guac in ‘em.

You’ll feel Old Spanish Pride
With fun far and wide
You’ll need shoes that are comfy to walk in ‘em.

Come out with your friends
It doesn’t depend
On whether you’re into ranchera.

It’s a whole lot of fun
You can sleep when it’s done
I’ll see you at this year’s Fiesta!

See you Friday!

Yours,
Dean
