President’s Letter – April 29, 2020

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

I experienced a first this week! My wife, Connie, and I were watching what has become a favorite show on Amazon Prime called “Grantchester”. It is a British mystery series that features a vicar and police inspector who solve murders in a little town in the English countryside, in the 1950s. In an episode we saw a few days ago, very casually one of the characters mentioned that he had been at a Rotary meeting on the night in question. A Rotary meeting! I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard Rotary being mentioned in a TV show. It was very exciting.

Speaking of Rotary meetings, we have one coming up this Friday, and it is going to be another good one! The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara’s longstanding signature program is its Teacher Recognition Awards. We love giving the awards and learning about the teachers and their schools. But we don’t get to hear what happens after they receive their awards…until now! This Friday our program will feature past award recipients and we will find out how they used their awards and how they are adapting to the virtual classroom environment.

Our meeting will be on Zoom again. It is easy to use and it is fun to be able to see everyone. You will find the link to join the meeting below. I look forward to seeing you there!

Warmest regards,
