President’s Letter – April 23, 2020

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

We had a wonderful program last week, and I’m looking forward to tomorrow. This Friday our excellent program committee has arranged for Santa Barbara City Administrator Paul Casey to discuss the impact of Covid-19 on our city. You will want to be a part of this one. If you have a friend in the club who isn’t comfortable using Zoom, please consider reaching out to help them get logged on so they can continue to participate in Rotary.

This article on how volunteerism supports personal resilience and well-being appeared in the New York Times this week and I wanted to share it because, to me, it gets to the heart of why so many people get hooked on Rotary

My wife, Connie, and I have continued volunteering to make masks from home for the Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade (whose founder Abe Powell is an honorary member of our club), and are set to keep sewing this weekend. It has been fun to do together, (while binge watching Devious Maids which I am now addicted to!) and it is helping people in need. So far the Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade has distributed 500 masks to North County farmworkers, Visiting Nurses Association, PATH, and Santa Barbara County Emergency Operations Center.

I’m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Warmest regards,

P.S. Check out this great article on 7 reasons young people should join Rotary now! Article:
